DIM

Say what?? Diindolylmethane is the stable form of indole-3-carbinol and is obtained from cruciferous veggies (think broccoli and kale). This substance modifies and regulates the effects of estrogen by increasing the production of good estrogens (2-hydroxy and 2-methoxyestrogen)  and decreasing the production of the bad actors (8 and 16 hydroxy estrogens).

DIM is not an estrogen mimic like the phytoestrogens in soy. Instead it balances the body's response to estrogen by adjusting the activity of cytochrome enzymes and estrogen receptors. This metabolic "tune up" limits cell division and growth in rapidly dividing cells such as cancer and favors cancer preventive metabolism. DIM also promotes the elimination of damaged cells.

Who needs it:

Pre menopausal gals - It will help you balance your "estrogen roller coaster" of highs and lows.

Post menopausal gals - it will reduce the unfavorable metabolites that are known to run in families with high rates of cancer.

Guys - We have a new understanding that the aging process creates an accumulation of estrogen in men. This shift has a profound effect on cardiovascular health and the prostate.

RECOMMENDATION: 120-240mg daily. Side effects are uncommon.
